When The Spark Magazine first featured Longan Vision as a new Spark Centre client, it was clear the team was building something special. At the time, they were a group of driven university students with a bold idea and an unmistakable passion for innovation. We certainly saw their potential, but like many early-stage startups, the scale of what they would go on to achieve was still unfolding…
Today, that early promise has translated into real momentum. Longan Vision has officially closed a $1.1 million CAD seed extension round, marking a significant milestone in their journey from student-led startup to an emerging leader in public safety technology.
Their progress reflects years of persistence, technical innovation, and a deep commitment to solving complex challenges for first responders.
Founded in 2018 by McMaster University engineering students Mingpo (Enzo) Jia, Alex Shortt, Yizhou (Leno) Zhao, Liuyin (Martin) Shi, and Chang (Ash) Liu, Longan Vision was built around one powerful mission: improving visibility, communication, and safety for first responders.
Their groundbreaking Fusion Vision System (FVS) combines thermal imaging, augmented reality, and real-time data sharing into a hands-free smart visor that helps firefighters navigate dangerous environments more effectively.
When The Spark Magazine first highlighted Longan Vision a few years ago, the company was preparing for its first pilot projects with fire departments. Even then, the potential was undeniable. The team had identified a critical challenge facing firefighters – the inability to safely and efficiently navigate through dense smoke while maintaining communication and situational awareness – and developed an innovative solution that could truly save lives.
Today, Longan Vision’s momentum continues to build.
